Projector Retro Fit - Halswell, Christchurch.
We were tasked with supplying and installing an Optoma UHZ50 projector and integrating it with the client’s existing Sonos ARC soundbar, in-ceiling speakers powered by a Sonos AMP, and wireless Sonos Subwoofer. Despite the challenges of running new cables without cutting additional holes, we managed to route power and HDMI cables through the existing structure and maximize the projection size. We also set up the client’s Sonos AMP and in-ceiling speakers in the living room to complete a multiroom audio system. Additionally, we tidied up and removed redundant cabling from previous installations. The result was a seamless and highly functional home entertainment system that the client was extremely pleased with.
Project Overview
Our client, who had recently purchased a new home, wanted to install a projector capable of projecting the largest possible image onto a plain wall while integrating smoothly with their existing Sonos audio system. The client’s setup included a Sonos ARC soundbar as front speakers, in-ceiling speakers powered by a Sonos AMP for rear audio, and a wireless Sonos Subwoofer. In addition, they had a Sonos AMP with in-ceiling speakers in the living room, which we also helped configure to complete their multiroom audio system.
Challenges
During our initial site visit, we identified several challenges, particularly around cable management. Running new cables for the projector was difficult due to the home’s structure, and the client requested that we avoid cutting additional holes in the walls or ceilings. Additionally, the projector needed to integrate with the Sonos system for seamless control. Furthermore, the client had existing but disorganized cabling from prior installations, some of which had become redundant.
Our Solution
To address the cabling challenges, we devised a plan to route both the power and HDMI cables through the existing ceilings and walls without the need for extra holes. We also carefully measured the distance between the projector and the screen wall to maximize the projection size, ensuring the client would get the largest possible image.
We selected the Optoma UHZ50 projector, a high-performance unit with HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel), which allowed it to connect effortlessly with the Sonos ARC soundbar and the other Sonos speakers. This integration meant the client could control the entire AV system with ease.
In addition to setting up the projector, we configured the Sonos AMP and in-ceiling speakers in the living room, completing the multiroom audio system. Finally, we tidied up all the existing cabling and removed any redundant cables, ensuring a clean and organized setup.
Results
The client was thrilled with the outcome. The Optoma UHZ50 projector delivered a large, high-quality image, perfectly complemented by the Sonos ARC soundbar, in-ceiling speakers, and wireless Sonos Subwoofer. The multiroom audio system, powered by the Sonos AMP, provided seamless audio throughout the home. The tidy and organized cabling further enhanced the overall aesthetics and functionality of the system.
Conclusion
This project is a great example of our expertise in overcoming installation challenges while delivering a top-tier AV solution. By integrating the Optoma UHZ50 projector with a sophisticated Sonos audio system and optimizing cable management, we were able to provide the client with a high-quality, multiroom home entertainment experience that exceeded their expectations.
