First introduced by Yamaha in the 1970s, the Orthodynamic™ driver has been redesigned using modern technology. Its ultra-thin diaphragm, metal coil pattern and concentric corrugations provide fast, precise response without compromising natural tonal quality.

The large open-back housings comfortably surround the ears while providing substantial internal acoustic volume and optimised airflow. Japanese-Made Stainless-Steel Filter

A rolled plain Dutch-weave stainless-steel filter precisely regulates pressure inside the housings. Manufactured in Japan under strict airflow controls, it creates a sound that is both remarkably dense and naturally open.

Two Types of Ear Pads

Two interchangeable ear-pad sets allow you to tailor the fit and listening experience. The sheepskin leather version delivers a precisely defined sound with a clear soundstage, while the soft Toray Ultrasuede® version provides an enveloping fit and a warmer sonic character.

Silver-Coated OFC Cables

The YH-5000SE includes detachable silver-coated oxygen-free copper cables for balanced and unbalanced connections. Precision braiding preserves signal purity, producing clear midrange and treble, expressive bass and accurate spatial detail.

Lightweight Magnesium Body

The rigid magnesium housing frame provides excellent vibration damping while keeping the headphones remarkably light. Weighing just 320 grams, the YH-5000SE remains comfortable and unobtrusive during extended listening.

Two-Layer Headband

A stainless-steel headband arm applies carefully balanced pressure to reduce fatigue, while the three-dimensionally sewn head pad flexes naturally and distributes weight evenly. A smooth, stepless slider provides precise adjustment for a personalised fit.

Inclined Swivel Mechanism

The inclined swivel mechanism helps the housings fit securely behind the ears, reducing air leakage and preserving low-frequency performance. Its controlled vertical movement maintains even pressure for greater comfort and acoustic consistency.

Handcrafted in Japan

The YH-5000SE is produced at Yamaha’s Kakegawa factory, where the company’s flagship grand pianos and audio components are also made. Each pair is carefully assembled by skilled craftspeople and must pass rigorous inspections before leaving the factory.
